Committee Structure
Executive Committee
PRESIDENT
The President of MeDUSA is responsible for the overall management and direction of the committee. They also represent MeDUSA on an external level through holding positions on many committees. |
VICE PRESIDENT
The Vice-President role is a supportive role within the MeDUSA Executive. The Vice-President is responsible for the implementation of various internal projects such as the Travel and Conference Support Scheme (TCSS) and elections. |
TREASURER
The Treasurer is responsible for coordinating MeDUSA’s financials through management of invoices from external stakeholders, reimbursements of subcommittees and other financial interests. |
SECRETARY
The MeDUSA secretary plays an integral role in the day-to-day running of the committee by facilitating communication between all MeDUSA members and the student cohort. |
PRECLINICAL PRESIDENT
The Preclinical President coordinates the activities of the preclinical committee. They represent Deakin’s preclinical students both on academic issues within the School of Medicine and internally at MeDUSA’s general committee meetings. |
GCSC PRESIDENT
The GCSC President is leader of the Geelong Clinical School Committee. The GCSC is a large subcommittee of MeDUSA which runs dozens of events during the year including MCQ nights, PRN night, end of rotation drinks and inspiring academic events. |
General Committee
AMSA CHAIR
The Australian Medical Students Association (AMSA) is the largest representative body of Australia’s 18,500 medical students: Deakin’s AMSA Chair advocates for you on the AMSA council. Along with the president, they ensure that Deakin’s voice is heard at the national level. |
ACADEMIC CHAIR
Your Academic Chair identifies concerns relating to assessment and aims to improve the quality of learning throughout your medical education. They also endeavor to inspire you, through various academic-run events throughout the year such as the Academic Careers Night or Electives Seminar. |
COMMUNITY CHAIR
The Community Chair links Deakin Medical students to the wider community through charity and volunteering initiatives. Events under this portfolio also aim to identify important issues that arise in the medical community, such as mental health awareness. |
IT CHAIR
The IT Chair manages the MeDUSA website and all IT services. If you have any issues relating to MeDUSA’s IT presence (e.g. online tickets or elections) or would like to give feedback about the website, contact the IT Chair. |
PUBLICATIONS CHAIR
The Publications Chair is responsible for the production of MeDUSA’s monthly newsletter, The Olecranon, as well as the invaluable survival guide and the fourth year graduation book. The Publications Chairs are always after interesting articles or artwork from students. |
SOCIAL CHAIR
The Social Chair has the large and important role of organising all the superb MeDUSA events that break up the academic year and make your time at Deakin more memorable. The Chair is always looking for enthusiastic students to get involved in a social subcommittee, so keep your eye out for opportunities to participate. |
SPONSORSHIP CHAIR
Your Sponsorship Chair has the important task of securing financial support for MeDUSA. This role involves writing the sponsorship prospectus, liaising with the sponsors and ensuring that all stakeholders are well represented and continue to have an ever-lasting relationship with MeDUSA. |
DSIG CHAIR
DSIG was created in 2012 to give medical students with an interest in surgery an avenue to improve their practical skills and learn more about the specialty from experienced surgeons. Contact your DSIG chair if you are surgically inclined and would like to get your hands dirty! |
CROSSING BORDERS CHAIR
The Crossing Borders committee was formed in 2013. It aims to inspire students with an interest in refugee and asylum seeker health to learn more about the issues of this unique community and to advocate for the basic human rights of these people in need. |
MEDFIT CHAIR
Your MedFit Chair is responsible for overseeing and organising the regular MedFit training sessions. They also have a role in advocating for the student body with regard to fitness/sports activities, and working towards representation at appropriate events. Get in contact with the MedFit Chair for information on where and when the group will be training next! |
